Project Background
Italy has witnessed rapid growth in installed capacity of wind and solar new energy, with steadily rising demand for energy storage on both grid-side and commercial & industrial sides. By charging and discharging to implement peak shaving and valley filling, energy storage systems effectively smooth grid fluctuations and reduce power consumption costs. As a critical component for grid connection, the medium-voltage switchgear supporting energy storage power stations is subject to growing attention on environmental compliance. Relevant EU greenhouse gas control regulations impose mandatory constraints on equipment selection. The EU F-Gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573 clearly stipulates that SF₆ greenhouse gas shall be prohibited for new medium-voltage switchgear with rated voltage ≤24kV starting from 1 January 2026.
Project Overview
• Procurement Date: May 2026
• Project Location: Italy
• Core Product: 24kV ASNA Atmospheric Pressure Sealed Natural Air Insulated RMU / Switchgear
• Total Supplied Units: 5 units
• Manufacturing Lead Time: 30 days
Solution Description
Based on project requirements, engineers designed four sets of ASNA switchgear with rated voltage of 24kV, rated current of 630A and short-circuit breaking current of 20kA, together with one incoming PT cabinet to meet the power consumption needs of the project. Electrical scope: Due to the special nature of this project, the client selects and assembles the relay protection devices independently. A combination of three-in-one three-phase current transformers and bushing-type current transformers is adopted. The incoming PT cabinet provides voltage signals and secondary circuit power supply. The operating mechanism is DC48V motor-operated mechanism.
Specialized Manufacturing
♦ Technical alignment and interface confirmation: Technical workshops are held in the early project phase to clarify project requirements, define technical parameters and dimensions, and confirm drawings and configurations.
♦ Production and inspection: Configuration and manufacturing are performed strictly in accordance with the primary single-line diagram. Critical purchased components undergo rigorous testing, and the complete solution passes overall testing and commissioning to reduce on-site installation and testing workload.
♦ Handover of full technical documentation and online training: Detailed technical documentation is delivered together with the equipment, including drawings, installation & operation manuals, operation guidelines, packaging & transportation specifications, accessory lists and other documents, images and video materials. Online video guidance and training services are also provided to enable the local team to independently carry out installation, commissioning and subsequent O&M.
Project Outcomes
With the urgent project timeline, the switchgear was shipped by air to the location designated by the client, enabling fast response to site requirements and successful delivery.
